What I'm Buying to Dress Better Next Year https://ift.tt/2Zw8X8M

While every year I like to think I get closer and closer to defining and mastering my own brand of personal style, it would be foolish to think that there will ever not be room for improvement. On that note, as we look ahead to 2020, it’s only natural that I still hope to dress better in the coming year. Particularly, my aim is to look more put-together and polished not just at work or when going out on the weekends but at all times. Coffee run, lunch date, walk in the park—you name it.

With that in mind, I’ve narrowed in on the items I’ll need in order to do so. Not surprisingly, two have to do with footwear, but the other four are equally as important and easy to achieve. To see, read about, and shop all six of the things I’m buying to dress better next year, just keep scrolling.

Nothing ties an outfit together like polished outerwear. In fact, it doesn't really matter what is underneath. When you top off your look with a leather trench, camel coat, utility-inspired jacket, or anything else that falls into the category, you look chic. For that reason, while I'd still like to tackle the other five sections you're about to see below, this is definitely step one for me.
One way to ensure you'll end up in flats every day is a closet of uncomfortable heels. Unfortunately, I've been guilty of making this shopping mistake more than once, but next year I really hope to turn myself into more of a heel person by seeking out comfortable, wearable styles. Things to look for are kitten heels and wide block heels, as well as styles with thicker straps or boots.
From classic styles to fashion-forward suits (including skirt-and-shorts sets), suiting is not only an easy way to look on trend for the foreseeable future but also ensures you'll always look put-together. If a full look feels too corporate for you, not to worry, because even just wearing a blazer or trousers will do wonders.
You know what's funny? I spend most of my time either going to and from work and meetings or actually in the office, yet I spend the least money and effort on bags that are nice for wearing every day and fit my laptop. In fact, I embarrassingly often end up using promotional totes. Next year, however, instead of focusing on mini bags and party clutches, I'm resolving to up my arsenal of functional purses.
Listen, I love a good T-shirt more than anybody reading this, but that doesn't mean I'm not aware that I'd probably look a lot more like an actual adult were I wearing a real top. While it's going to be hard for me to step out of my (literal) comfort zone next year, I'm determined to do it for the sake of style.
Let's be real. No matter how many pairs comfortable heels I acquire, there are still going to be days when the chance of me wearing them is slim to none. That's why I plan on adding a few pairs of polished flats to my wardrobe so that even on my most casual, laziest days, I can still feel my best.
