Opinion: These Comfortable Fall Trends Are the Only Fall Trends That Will Matter https://ift.tt/3jnfX0X

Even though most of the country is boiling hot these days, it's never too early to start thinking about what you're going to be wearing this fall (something to look forward to, at least?). Designers debuted their F/W 20 collections months ago, so we've had lots of time to narrow them down to the most important. And since it's 2020, that translates as the most comfortable ones.

Taking into consideration that this spring and summer many trends we thought were going to be everywhere didn't really pan out, some of the more elaborate trends initially shown for fall and winter may not be all that practical anymore either. So we scoured the looks that came down the runways in February and March, narrowing them down to only the most comfortable ones that you'll actually want to wear. As long as we're dealing with this global health crisis, and probably even beyond that, comfortable clothes will definitely be key.

Scroll on to shop 7 comfortable trends to look forward to wearing this fall.

Maybe it's all in our heads, but head-to-toe gray outfits (or "groutfits") are quite cozy, especially when they involve knit fabrics and slouchy silhouettes. Major designers like Max Mara, Isabel Marant, and Prada all seem to be in agreement.

We have a hunch that flat and low-heel shoe trends will reign supreme this fall. Many designers (i.e. Chloé, Marc Jacobs, and A.W.A.K.E. Mode) took a cue from menswear and paired their clothes with classic brogues. Consider it this season's fresh alternative to loafers.

Velvet is a trend that comes and goes every few years, but it's definitely here for 2020. We can't wait to feel the buttery soft warmth of it again come October. It's pretty easy on the eyes, too.

Body-con knit dresses (especially ribbed knit ones) were well represented in the fall collections of Brandon Maxwell, Dion Lee, and Simon Miller. Trust us, they're far chicer than the body-con dresses you used to know.

As far as cozy outerwear trends go, F/W 20 will be all about the shaggy shearling. Whether as an accent to a coat or covering it completely, it will easily add a stylish touch to any fall outfit.

Speaking of shearling, furry shoes were another trend that stood out on the runways of Miu Miu, JW Anderson, Altuzarra, and more. If you really want to up the comfort level of your fall shoes, choose a pair that's lined in fur.

Wrapping yourself up in a cape will sound a lot more appealing when the temperature drops. Plus, it's a surefire way to ensure your fall outfits look instantly elevated.

Next up, 29 pairs of shoes that'll sell out before fall hits.
