We Tried Soko Glam's Newest Skincare Line—Here Are Our Unfiltered Thoughts https://ift.tt/3hXeQ6D

We here at Who What Wear, we live to try new things, especially beauty products. Whether it’s adopting a makeup routine, trying a new mascara, or testing over 60 sampleswe’re never afraid to switch things up. So when Charlotte Cho, the co-founder behind the beloved Korean skincare brand Soko Glam, announced the brand would be launching a new skincare line, we had to try it. Ahead you’ll learn more about the line, called Good (Skin) Days, and get reviews from four of our editors. Skincare lovers, keep scrolling to see if these are your new favorite products.

So what sets Good (Skin) Days apart? Per Soko Glam’s press release, this isn't just a skincare line. It's also debuting its charitable program, Good Days for AllSoko Glam will donate a portion of the proceeds from Good (Skin) Days products to two to three national charities a year, which consumers will vote on. (The first charity will be Black Lives Matter.) If that doesn’t sweeten the purchase for you, the skincare collection includes a clean, cruelty-free cleanser, toner, serum, and moisturizer, all under $26. Basically, this is a purchase you can feel good about making, but if you’re not sold yet, keep reading for our team’s reviews of each product to determine your own verdict.

Beauty editor Erin Jahns has tested her fair share of beauty products, so she knows a thing or two about good skincare. Keep scrolling for her thoughts on Soko Glam's Good (Skin) Days line.
Her thoughts on the cleanser: "I'm never too picky when it comes to cleansers, but since I am acne-prone, I'm always looking for something that feels like it's giving me a deep clean without being overly drying or stripping my skin's moisture levels. This leaves my complexion feeling super refreshed, thoroughly cleansed, and with no lingering residue or dryness. I'm a fan, and I also loved how richly it lathered up—a little really does go a long way with this!"
Her thoughts on the moisturizer: "I try to be so vigilant about sun exposure, but this moisturizer got put to the test after I went for a super-long hike and accidentally got burned this past weekend. My skin was feeling parched, dry, and sensitive, and thankfully, this hydrating formula really saved the day, Not only did my skin feel immediately topped up with moisture, but it was also incredibly calming and easy on my sensitive skin. I can definitely see myself using this regularly and loved how it felt combined with the serum."
Her thoughts on the serum: "As a disclaimer, I'm not usually able to use skincare products with high doses of vitamin C (serums, specifically), because I've found my skin almost always has a reaction. That said, I did try this serum out a few times by mixing it in with my moisturizer, and I loved how featherlight and watery the texture is. I really can't stand serums that feel sticky or tacky, so the silky feel of this one definitely won it bonus points. Although I haven't used it enough to know if it would result in breakouts, I think it did have an almost immediate brightening and glow-enhancing effect on my skin."

Her thoughts on the cleanser: "As someone who didn't develop any real discernment toward cleanser until about a year or two ago, I still find it pretty hard to judge face washes. While I certainly have a couple of go-tos, my judgment mainly depends on the tactile experience. I like to lather my facial cleanser for a good 60 seconds, so a thick, luxurious foam or a super-slippery gel is usually a prerequisite in my book. For this reason, I haven't historically been a fan of cream cleansers. In my experience, they just don't lather enough to keep up with my rigorous wash routine. That's not at all the case with this particular cream cleanser, though. It's creamy on application, but with a little water and elbow grease, it bubbles up into a thick, cleansing froth that really clears out the pores and doesn't leave any kind of residue on the skin (a huge pet peeve of mine!). I love that it offers gentle exfoliation via mugwort leaves and lots of hydration and nourishment via skin-loving fermented green tea, spinach, celery, and broccoli. Overall, I'm really digging it!"
Her thoughts on the moisturizer: “Okay, wow. I have to admit that I'm not usually into lightweight moisturizers. Although I have combination skin that tends to get super oily through my T-zone, the area around my mouth gets dryer than the Sahara. This moisturizer feels almost like a gel, which made me nervous at first because in the past, moisturizers of this consistency would ultimately leave that area feeling tight and dry after a short time. It must be all the probiotics and ceramides packed into this tube because tight and dry is the furthest thing from what my skin feels after applying this moisturizer. It's perfect for summer! Big fan over here. I'll keep using my heavier moisturizer at night, and once winter rolls around, this one probably won't cut it anymore, but for now, I'm into it!”
Her thoughts on the serum: “Let me just start by saying I'm a stickler about my vitamin C. I've had some sort of vitamin C serum in my skincare routine for many years now and credit the stuff for keeping my skin glowy and helping to even out any post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation that arises. My all-time favorite vitamin C serum combines ascorbic acid with stabilizing and skin-loving vitamin E and anti-aging ferulic acid, so that's the combination I've exalted to holy-grail status. This serum has the vitamin E part on lock but instead brings in ingredients like licorice root extract, niacinamide, and antioxidant-rich camu camu to round out the formula. I like how lightweight the serum feels on the skin and how it doesn't have a scent. (I just don't need fragrance in my skincare.) It's hard to tell after only a few days of use if it's making any improvement in my skin, especially since I use vitamin C regularly, but I can say that I'm holding off on stars until the relatively low vitamin C concentration proves itself. After years of using products with as high as a 20% concentration, I can't say I'm too confident in the ability of a mere 10% concentration. Jury's still out on this one.”
So what does associate fashion editor Anna LaPlaca think of Good (Skin) Days’ line? She says, “I’m just going to say it: I’m really happy with where my skin is at right now. It’s been a solid week since I started using the cleanser, vitamin C serum, and moisturizer in the morning and at night from Soko Glam’s skincare, and I’m pretty impressed. Before I started using them, I was dealing with some bumpy texture, hyperpigmentation, and generally dull skin, so I really liked that all three products are gentle and hydrating. I definitely noticed that the dark spots on my forehead lightened, and my skin was overall smoother and more alive-looking.”
Her thoughts on the cleanser: “The cream cleanser was my favorite of the bunch. It’s detoxifying thanks to ingredients like green tea but still gentle, so it’s non-stripping. (Oh, and a little bit goes a long way.)”
Her thoughts on the moisturizer: “I also adore the moisturizer, which is a light-as-air gel formula. It’s perfect for the summer because it sinks easily into the skin but keeps me nice and hydrated all day.”
Her thoughts on the serum: “The same goes for the serum. It’s brightening thanks to its key ingredient, vitamin C, but also hydrating (not something I can say of most vitamin C serums, which can feel a bit sticky). All three products have definitely left my skin glowing and more hydrated, so I can honestly say I’ll be keeping them in my rotation going forward.”
I typically don’t have a full-blown skincare routine. Since my skin has always been very sensitive, my approach was always less is more, but living in the New York City humidity has forced me to reckon with my former laissez-faire skincare routine. The summer heat paired with face masks has been making my skin break out, so I was excited to test out Soko Glam’s Good (Skin) Days line.
My thoughts on the cleanser: I’ve always been a drugstore-cleanser girl and have rarely used them unless I was breaking out. So having to use a cleanser every day was a challenge at first. That being said, I found it relaxing to have a day-in, day-out routine. I would definitely recommend pairing this with your other skincare essentials, as I noticed it worked better paired with a toner rather than those nights I was lazy and just used the cleanser.
My thoughts on the moisturizer: Honestly, I don’t know how I was living without this moisturizer. Upon using it, I immediately noticed that it helped keep my skin hydrated, which has always been an issue for my eczema-prone skin. And my overall facial skin texture softened, which helped create more of a dewy look, and I saw a reduction in redness which was great.
My thoughts on the toner: Again, as a skincare novice, I had to have a whole debrief with my best friend about the benefits of a toner, but please do not let that detract from the fact I instantly noticed the impact of this toner. Being that my apartment doesn’t have AC, I’ve been struggling to stay cool, and by default, my skin has been breaking out. But upon using the toner, I noticed that my skin felt less sweaty and cleaner throughout the day.
Her thoughts on the serum: Okay, don’t come for me, but I have mixed feelings about serums. Sometimes I’m like, they seem pointless, and sometimes I’m like, they’re magical dew in a bottle. For Good (Skin) Days’ serum, I’m not sure if I overall noticed a difference since I don’t have a lot of hyperpigmentation, but I will say it felt like a glossy finish to my skincare routine. And after all, aren’t the best products the ones that leave you feeling glossy?
