Olivia Rodrigo Wears a 3D Micro Miniskirt Made Entirely of Roses

Olivia Rodrigo sticks to her signature sense of style for Vogue's August 2023 issue, if not venturing into a slightly-more-playful, '60s-inspired territory. The 20-year-old musician, who is embracing her new move to New York City and about to release her second album, "Guts," was styled by Alex Harrington for the shoot, lensed by Théo de Gueltzl. The abundance of floral appliquéd micro miniskirts is appreciable — she wears a white Prada version with Loewe's avant-garde "gift bow" top, hair slicked into a tight bun by Jimmy Paul; an ultra-short Valentino number crafted from pink roses with a Maison Margiela fuzzy, deconstructed sweater; and another felt Prada design with artful paper plane pumps and pearls — a more creative take on the quiet luxury trend. What feels most familiar, sartorially speaking, is probably the cover, for which Rodrigo poses in an Emporio Armani sequined shift dress, embellished with a big, black flower pin at the collar that accents her footwear: '90s combat boots. That detail feels decidedly rugged and real, which is reflective of Rodrigo's fashion sense at the height of her "Drivers License" fame. Now, she works with stylist Danielle Goldberg, who put together her look for the "Guts" album cover — a take on the visible bra trend with a purple slip of satin sticking out from under a lacy camisole. In the Vogue feature, Jia Tolentino connects with Rodrigo about her early days working with Disney, as well as her future, which she teases with her new single "Vampire." It's "about figuring stuff out, about failures and successes and making mistakes," Rodrigo says of her new music. When she thinks about doing press for her first album, "Sour," she says, "That girl feels like a different person. I look back at her and I think, 'Aw. She did well.' I think she'd be really happy with who she is." Only time will tell if a major shift in wardrobe will come with Rodrigo's new releases. She and Goldberg settled on a Brandon Maxwell silk minidress with ribbon sleeves that trailed all the way down to her patent platforms for the "Vampire" premiere at YouTube Headquarters in LA on June 29.
