5 Boot Trends That Will Define Fall 2021 https://ift.tt/378mJCT

If there's one key buy for fall, it's a fresh pair of boots. As someone who has a bit of a boot obsession, I find myself investing in a great new silhouette to carry me through the season, so I always keep my eye on the biggest new trends. If the F/W 21 collections are any indication, boots are going to be huge for the season ahead, and there are some silhouettes we already know will be defining themselves as the It buys.

We saw designers—including The Row, Khaite, and Thebe Magugu—focused on a "legs in leather" approach to getting dressed, where boots in a variety of cool shapes were a major focal point of each look. Styling was top of mind as well, with knee-high boots most often paired with micro hemlines instead of jeans or trousers as we saw in past seasons. One thing is for certain: There are so many cool silhouettes coming down the pipeline that I'm very ready for. Here, see the five fall boot trends that are about to be huge.

A major style in the F/W 21 collections? Boots with tall, above-the-knee silhouettes that have a decidedly slouchy finish. They're almost pant-like and remind me of the relaxed leather trousers that were popular in the past few seasons.
Knee-high boots are a classic shape for fall, but this time around, they're super sleek. They have an eveningwear quality to them, which makes them the perfect shoe style to pair with going-out looks like dresses and miniskirts.
Another over-the-knee boot silhouette is in the fold, but this style is more formfitting than the slouchy styles above. Look for smooth leather and a mid-thigh rise to tap into this polished trend.
If you're someone who is always willing to try out the most trend-forward pieces, platform boots are the style for you. They made a huge statement at Versace and Molly Goddard and fit into the larger platform-shoe trend that swept the runways.
This trend may be a bit more niche, but who doesn't love when functional, practical shoes are also trend-forward? Moon boots were pretty much inescapable on the F/W 21 runways—a shoe style that fits nicely into the ski-inspired fashion we saw everywhere in the collections.
